man in empty theatre Where are you on your life journey right now?

You might be feeling unfulfilled professionally. Maybe you’re happy with your career but feeling empty and alone in your personal life.

Maybe you feel lost and don’t know what you want or what makes you happy anymore.  You’ve lost track of what inspires you and gives you the energy to bring your contribution to the world.

Or, maybe life is “fine,” or even “good,” but you want to make a bold move and fear you don’t have the courage to go for what you want. There’s an aspect of your life that just isn’t working for you these days. Something has to change…

Regardless where you are in your life, you want to live a life that feels right for you. Deep inside, there is a part of you that wants to bloom in all your shades and colors.  Despite the challenges and the chaos of the world, you want to express your uniqueness and lead a productive, creative life.

You want to live with a sense of meaning and purpose. You dream of creating  something you love, and you want it to resonate with others. You feel called to make a contribution to the world even as you honor yourself.

Whatever might stand in your way to feel fulfilled, EMDR therapy can help you reconnect with your creativity, productivity, and natural sense of curiosity.

How can EMDR help you Iive more fully?

EMDR (or Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) can help you emotionally internalize what is missing or lacking in your internal world. This form of therapy can help you find genuine happiness, even if you feel you don’t have the “emotional make-up” to find contentment and fulfillment.Lady smiling eyes

EMDR gives you new ways to process feelings and experiences and enables you to have an emotional understanding of how you feel and interact with the world. When you process your experiences with EMDR, you can explore  new ways of feeling, thinking, and being.

As you integrate these new ways of feeling and thinking, a process called internalization, you become aware  of how you respond to your current circumstances, past experiences, and relationships. This authentic knowing helps  guide you through all aspects of life. You are able to make more empowered decisions and access your creativity as a result of this powerful form of internal healing.

Your childhood experiences dictate your emotions later in life

For instance, if you felt loved enough as a child, you internalized a feeling of love. You tend to see people as loving and the world as an inherently loving place.

But, if you didn’t feel loved enough as a child, the world becomes the realm of the “unloved child” and you find yourself on a never-ending search for acceptance and approval. You can get stuck with people who don’t really love you. When people who genuinely love you show their human imperfections you may see their “unloving gestures” as proof that they don’t care and value you.

Your childhood experiences also shape the way you experience feelings like trust, hope, and determination.  You are born to feel curiosity, wonder, and a desire to explore. If these qualities were not nurtured when you were young, however, they cannot emerge and bloom later in life.

Depending on your early experiences, you may not even know how curiosity feels. You might know what you’d do if and when you uncover a desire to explore and take a healthy risk.lady on the bench with teddy bear watching a lake

If you did have access to such feelings, where would they take you? Maybe you’d build a career that makes you happy or embark on a journey to discover your true talents and gifts. You might use your powers of curiosity to reach out and create relationships with people who are good for you.

This energy that inspires you to explore can keep you going despite the challenges of life. With access to your original trust, hope, and determination, you could begin to overcome your  fears and face your doubts so that life’s inevitable obstacles no longer stop you in your tracks.

EMDR Therapy Reconnects You To Yourself

Within the right therapeutic relationship, EMDR can help you connect to the feelings you are innately born to experience: love, trust, a sense of curiosity, and exploration. This process can rekindle your drive to create, connect, and achieve your goals or help you get excited about your creative energy for the first time.

For instance, if your sense of confidence has been hurt or never had a chance to develop, EMDR can give you taste of what it feels like to be grounded in a sense of  genuine confidence that is based on the real you, including your strengths, weakness, and everything in-between.

This therapeutic process is focused on growth and will help you get back in touch with those feelings that were not nurtured but have always been within you, longing to be revived and expressed.

When you can get back in touch with abandoned feelings – like your sense of confidence – you can make that emotional experience part of your everyday life.  EMDR helps you experience a feeling and then it strengthens that feeling in your nervous system.  When you take that renewed sense of grounded confidence into the real world it continues to grow within you and become a solid part of who you are.confident lady portrait

This process offers real, inside-out healing and growth that give you a sense of embodied, genuine confidence.

Since I have begun to integrate EMDR techniques into my psychotherapy practice I have watched countless clients access their innate propensity for growth. They have healed past wounds and opened up to the feelings that help them accomplish their goals and connect to their life purpose.
